Sophie de Garam lives in Vanuatu, a Pacific and isolated island nation where marks are the base of ethnic and local rituals. Her paintings are composed of a line, a trace which punctuates canvas — like an energy drawing up its road or a ephemeral print of a pathway. Her technique is unique. And we ask ourselves which one, between the line and the background, comes before the other.
