‘Fel Warsha’ has traveled to one of the most charming village in Upper Egypt, Old Gourna located on the west bank of Luxor. I was searching for a palm craftsman to collaborate with until I ran into Ahmed Abden. While discovering his workshop, I have been impressed by the way he was crafting his pieces, each piece in his workshop made from the palm midrib and has been crafted precisely using a sharp tools.
We had a dialogue for almost 3 days researching new ideas to re-think this powerful material in contemporary form. The workshop was focusing on bridging the gap between artisan and designer to ultimately collaborate; creating products which will be valued both for their exquisite handmade craftsmanship and design.
These hand made palm furnitures reflects the creative exchange of skills, knowledge and professional experiences. The working process I shared with the craftsman was a valuable practice that with time developed into friendship. I would thank him for bringing this project to fruition

As I study topics around user-centered product design and development, I always try to keep the broader implications of my research in mind. I always question the role of an object in everyday scenarios, searching for innovation and simplicity in the design language involved
