Multidisciplinary artist, Lia Rochas-Pàris lives and works in Paris.
Collect, cut, paste could be these keywords.
The artist composes with the elements. Exploring visual archives, Lia Rochas-Pàris doesn’t hesitate to go beyond the space-time borders in order to draw innen landscapes. Fragments from various sources end up rubbing elbows with each other, allowing her to perceive a cosmogony close to surrealism.
Lia Rochas-Pàris probes the full and the empty, "the space between", what the Japanese call the "Ma". This quest for visual balance, close to ikebana, manifests itself through these various cycles of creation.
Guided by an intention to assemble, the exploration and diversity of materials allow her to adopt a personal visual narrative. According to her, "everything is collage", a way of perceiving in each thing the amalgamation of various resources that end up forming a whole. Paper collages, Cut-Up Haïku, fabrics patchworks, inclusion, texts, polaroids, foto-novellas….So many elements that can be deconstructed in order to rebuild.
This will to make a world from the collected elements is found in the recurrence of the themes in tension that she tackles such as the attraction of bodies in space, weightlessness and movement, the almighty eros, mythology or the Milky Way.
With degrees in Aesthetics of Art (Sorbonne), Design (Ensci) and Digital Arts (Sorbonne), Lia Rochas-Pàris sees the manifestations of the creative process as an artistic practice in its own.
According to her, "The creative process is like a puzzle in which each piece has an essential place. This vision has led her to consider the artistic process as an integral part of understanding a work. Based on this consideration, Lia Rochas-Pàris has produced photo-novels based on conversations with personalities related to culture, she has organized exhibitions on a shelf in her studio and in institutional venues, and edited puzzles, fanzines, a newspaper and books related to the creative process.
In a logical continuity and in parallel to her artistic approach, the artist founded Parties Prises: creative studio, curatorial platform and publishing house.
Through Parties Prises Lia Rochas-Pàris has produced photo-novels based on conversations with personalities linked to culture, she has organized exhibitions on a shelf in her studio and in institutional places and edited puzzles, fanzines, a newspaper and books related to the creative process.
So many projects and editions that materialize ideas through matter. Faced with the constant flow of information conveyed on the Internet, the concept of Parties Prises emerged as an answer to the question: "what if the cloud evaporated one day with all our data?".
Since 2007, Lia Rochas-Pàris' work has been the subject of several solo and group exhibitions in Paris, Arles, Marseille, Amsterdam, Osaka and New York.
She has collaborated with Gucci, La Villa Vassilieff, Le Coeur, À Rebours x Fondation Lafayette, Coralie Marabelle, John Lobb, Les Infâmes, Sony music, Casio... His collages and texts have been seen and read in Please Magazine, Girl Like Us, GQ France, Standard Magazine etc...
